Buddy Cup

CONTEXT

Promote a Bud party with cups that connect people when they toast. Transforming the act of toasting into a way to add friends on Facebook, just with the touch of glasses.

Solution

Buddy Cup is the first IoT (Internet of Things) case in Brazil and Shortlist Outdoor in Cannes. It was designed by the agency Africa, co-created by Bolha, and upgraded the good old habit of gifting with a smart cup.

To do this, we studied interaction options, physical and virtual, until we arrived at the final Buddy Cup model, which had a microprocessor at the base of the cup integrated with several sensors that detected the typical movement of a gift. When two glasses approached this movement, the circuits emitted a signal to the application designed by Bolha, making a mention on the timeline of each user, marking on Facebook the toast made between people.

The Buddy Cups were individual and each consumer who entered the bar, where the pilot took place, received a cup with a QR code on the base and with a shortened URL. Then all you had to do was connect to Facebook through the URL, toast and then check your timeline for all the people you met at the bar.
